The Bill Harvey Scholarship

The Bill Harvey Scholarship.bill_harvey

Criteria: disadvantaged youth/financial hardship.

The Bill Harvey Scholarship, funded by community member and Hobart City Council Alderman Bill Harvey, will cover the costs for two young people to participate in the newly created Cooper Screen Academy acting workshops.

The scholarship is a great opportunity for a young person who may have skills and/or interest in acting but not the financial resources to be part of a professional and creative learning environment.

Who can apply?

The scholarships are available to young people (16-25) who are either a client of, or enrolled in a government or non-government alternative education, employment, health, social or recreational support or assistance program, or identified by a community professional as having significantly disengaged or being at risk of significantly disengaging from the community.

How does a young person apply for the scholarship?

The young person fills out an online enrolment form and auditions for Cooper Screen Academy and receives an audition time. If accepted into the course the young person’s case worker/advocate nominates the young person for the scholarship.

Nomination forms must be received prior to the beginning of the first workshop program.  Cooper Screen Academy Director, Sara Cooper, scholarship provider Bill Harvey and Hobart City Council Youth Programs Coordinator, Mark Joseph, will assess and select scholarship recipients.

Workshop fees will be paid directly to Cooper Screen Academy and no one but the young person and their worker/advocate will be made aware of the scholarship unless the recipient chooses to disclose this information.

Nomination forms will be made available through the listed community service programs or will be able to be collected at the applicant's audition.

Please note:
If a young person indicates on their CSA application form that they are applying for a Bill Harvey Scholarship they must name the community program and their youth worker's name in the application form.  If they are then accepted into Cooper Screen Academy course but are not successful in receiving a scholarship, there is no obligation for them to enrol.

Applicants must be nominated by a youth worker at one of the following (or similar) programs:
Colony 47, Anglicare, Centacare, Council youth centres/programs, Mission Australi,a, Baptcare, Migrant Resource Centre, PCYCPULSE,  Youth Health Centre, Department of Education, Alternative Education Programs, such as Youth ARC Personalised Learning Program, Smith Family, Red Cross, Lifeline, Community Houses (Often referred to as Neighbourhood Houses)
